While we'd love to keep Deirdre in our fold, we've now retained too many of our homebred heifers so the difficult decision has been made to find a new home for Deirdre. If only we had twice the paddock space!
Deirdre is only available to Australian Highland Cattle Society (AHCS) registered breeders, to preserve her unique genetics in the Herdbook. She will be a serious asset to any stud fold, being a two in one package, in calf to an outstanding stud sire.
We purchased Deidre as a weanling heifer from Stone Ridge Highlands, and transported her from Tasmania. We selected Deirdre for her unique pedigree and bloodlines - her sire is Brogach 4th of Craigowmill (IMP GBR), bred by one of the largest and most influential folds in Scotland. Brogach 4th of Craigowmill is the sire of several champions in Australia, and his straws are now sold out.
Deirdre has developed into a lovely deep, long, and sound structured heifer, who has shown excellent growth for age. She stands out in the paddock with her unique dramatic brindle colour.
Deirdre has been shown successfully, placing at both shows she attended:
- 2nd place at Dungog Show 2023 (Small Breeds Heifer 8-12 months)
- 3rd place at Canberra Royal 2024 (Highland Female 14 months & not over 20 months)
Deirdre is a no-fuss paddock cow. She comes when called, is easy to move into and through the yards, will take food treats from your hand. During show preparation when she was being regularly handled, she was brushed and able to be haltered free in the paddock daily. She is not currently interested in being brushed in the paddock, as she's had limited handling time in the last eight months. With time spent we expect she'll again allow a brush from people that she knows and trusts.
Deirdre is pregnancy tested in calf to William Windrush of Hunter Highlands (ET), the Reserve Senior Champion Bull at the 2024 Australian Highland Cattle Society Inc National Show. This will be a very exciting calf! William is an Embryo Transfer calf sired by Gusgurlach of Windrush, an internationally regarded sire who’s genetics were imported from Canada, and out of Peigi of Bairnsley, a cow who has produced several Australian champions.
Deirdre is due to calve in winter 2025, and comes with a service certificate to enable her new home to register her calf with the AHCS.
Price: $14,500 + gst

Deciding to purchase Highland cattle is a big decision! We understand they are simply adorable, but please ensure you are aware of the commitment and can provide them with the proper home and care. We are very happy to help you learn how to care for them, and we provide ongoing support to our buyers.
Please consider:
Cattle are very social animals and they cannot be kept alone - they must have bovine companionship! If you do not already own other cattle, you will need to purchase two.
Deirdre is the only Highland that we have for sale at the moment - so you must already own other cattle.
Our cattle are very quiet, but like all cattle you will need basic handling facilities (ie basic yards and a headbale/crush). This is essential in the event that they need vet care in the future - even the most gentle animals can become uncooperative if they are injured and in pain.
Transport is the responsibility of the buyer. Depending on your location we may be able to assist with delivery for a fee. If collecting yourself you will need a suitabe purpose-built cattle trailer compatible with a loading ramp - strictly no horse floats or trailers with built in ramps, unless by prior dicussion and agreement with us.
You will need a PIC number for your property, and have it registered for NLIS.
Cattle are only available to buyers approved by us, and we will not agree to sell if we feel it is not in the best interest of either the animal or or the buyer. The welfare of our animals is our first priority!
